EVENT PURPOSES

Dayton area residents have reserved this park area for private event use. We will gather peacefully as we mourn Charlie’s death, reflect together on his life, pray for his family, and pray for our country.

Though he was so frequently mischaracterized in the media, those who have followed Charlie and Turning Point over the years recognize:

1) Charlie’s love for people of all backgrounds, and his patience even with those who opposed him with anger and disrespect.

2) His positive influence and challenges to our generation.

3) His advocacy for free speech for ALL.

4) His sincere and growing faith.

5) His desire to see healthy, flourishing communities.

ACTIVITIES

We are not gathering to protest at this event or to complain about those who have opposed Charlie. Instead, we will:

1) Honor Charlie’s example and legacy by reflecting together on what it means for our lives and communities going forward.

2) Give all participants at the event an opportunity to peacefully share insights and memories with fellow Dayton area residents who admired Charlie.

3) Brainstorm future action and possible connections with local churches and movements like Turning Point

4) View the live transmission of the memorial service when it begins (2:00pm EST).

**Kettering law enforcement is cooperating with us to promote the safe, peaceful event that we have planned. We ask our invitees NOT to engage with any protestors or provocateurs. They can be debated in environments designed for that purpose. This particular event is not a debate but a memorial, so please let the organizers handle them as needed. Many organizations encourage, facilitate, and plant agitators at events like this. Our event is a private reservation and we may ask anyone to leave at any time for any reasons, especially for not conforming to the guidelines and purposes we have established.
